Deliciously Wild San Sebastian Retreat

Deliciously Wild sits at the intersection of two things that don't usually go together: comfort and wildness. You like nice things; a beautiful table, excellent wine (or tea or coffee!), a bed you actually want to sleep in. You also want to hike until your legs ache, eat like a local, and feel the kind of alive that only comes from being somewhere new.

This retreat is both. Always both.

We'll eat our way through one of the world's great food cities. We'll walk a stretch of the Camino de Santiago. We'll visit a traditional Basque cider house and a txakoli vineyard in the hills. We'll have one extraordinary welcome dinner, one farewell meal worth remembering, and a lot of beautiful moments in between.

And through it all, there will be space. Space to think, to breathe, to be a full human being, not just a productive one.

A private townhouse villa in the Antiguo neighbourhood of San Sebastián, one of the city's most beautiful and characterful areas, steps from Ondaretta Beach and within easy reach of everything.

The villa has multiple terraces, multiple communal living spaces, bedrooms across different floors so everyone has their own space, and even an elevator in case you're feeling fancy (or, ya know, too tired for the stairs - we won't judge!). Shared rooms have two single beds and their own private bathroom. One private ensuite double room is available.

This is where we start and end each day, and is the home base for everything.

San Sebastián has more Michelin stars per square kilometre than almost anywhere on earth. But the real magic isn't in the fine dining, it's in the culture of eating well as a daily act, not just a special occasion.

Mornings start with a proper Spanish breakfast: tortilla, pastries, fresh fruit, yogurt, and extra goodies bought from local markets.

The rest of the food is a mix: pintxos bars, restaurants, picnics on the beach, meals cooked together. All of it chosen with the same eye for what makes an experience feel genuinely good.

The best way to get to San Sebastián is to fly into Bilbao (BIO), which is about 1 hour 15 minutes away by car. Many flights arrive late in the day, so we strongly recommend arriving into Bilbao on Monday 7th September and staying the night there. Bilbao is worth an evening of your time, and will give you an extra day to beat the jet lag if travelling from afar.

An airport transfer from Bilbao is included on the afternoon of Tuesday 8th September. Once guest numbers are confirmed, we'll share the exact transfer time based on where everyone is coming from.

Alternatively, fly into Madrid and then take a train or plane to Bilbao. This is a great option if you want to spend a couple of extra days in Spain before joining us. A return transfer back to Bilbao airport is included on the morning of Sunday 13th September.

There are places you visit. And then there are places that change how you think about living well.

San Sebastián (Donostia in Basque) is a small city on the Bay of Biscay in Spain's Basque Country, where they speak both Spanish and Basque. It has a beach that runs right through the heart of it. Mountains behind it. A food culture so embedded in daily life that eating well isn't a luxury here, it's just what people do.

The Basque people have a word for it: pintxos. Small bites, intense flavour, served at every bar in the city from mid-morning until late. And don't even get us started on the Basque cheesecake (you'll understand as soon as you try it). It's not fast food, it's a whole philosophy of pleasure. Of slowing down enough to actually taste something. They even have members-only gastronomic societies (aka: Txokos) that are completely dedicated to cooking, eating, and socialising.

Beyond the city: the Camino de Santiago winds through the hills above. Txakoli vineyards cling to the slopes facing the sea. Traditional cider houses have been making sagardoa the same way for centuries. The French Basque Country is forty minutes away. The whole region is one of the most alive, characterful, food-obsessed corners of Europe. We visited in 2018 and haven't stopped talking about it since.

This is why it's the first Deliciously Wild retreat. It had to be.
